Rockdale JV

The Tiger junior varsity faced the Teague Lions Thursday in their first game of the season. This road trip ended in a loss, with the final score Teague 14, Rockdale 6.

Defensively the Tigers were strong all night long. They kept the Lions from scoring in the first three quarters of the ballgame.

Unable to score after a series of impressive offensive plays, the Tigers special teams, led by punter Greyson Williams, put the Lions all the way back on the four-yard line. The Tigers defense then capitalized on a mistake by Teague’s quarterback with Tiger defensive back Greyson Williams making an interception.

The Tiger offense came to life in the second quarter. Quarterback Greyson Williams completed a 40-yard pass to tight end Reaghan Jackson. However, even with some quality play by the Tiger offense the Tigers came up short of scoring on the drive.

Later in the game after a 17-yard run by QB Williams and a 40-yard dash by running back Jeremiah Butler, the Tigers were ready to put some points on the scoreboard. With a pass from Williams to Jackson, this gave the Tigers the lead in the ballgame, 6-0.

The Lions came back and had a productive fourth quarter, scoring 14 points and ultimately winning the ballgame.

Tiger JV coaches shared, “It was a great effort with lots of positives, these young Tigers are growing up.”

Outstanding defensive play came from linebacker Bryson O’Bryant, lineman Bryson Duncan, Jonathon Morgan and defensive back Williams. Other key players for the JV were: Offensive lineman Edwin Saldana, tight end Reagan Jackson and defensive lineman Jonathan Morgan along with the entire defensive squad.

THIS WEEK— Thursday night the JV plays here against the Taylor Ducks at 6:45 p.m.

Rockdale freshmen The Tiger freshman team traveled to Georgetown to play the East View Patriots and they came back home with a win, beating the Patriots 12-0.

Tiger Shawn Gerren set the pace early in the game by recovering a fumble against the Patriots on the opening kick off. After the Tigers threw an interception near the end zone they got the ball back by Tiger Josiah Smith creating a turnover, knocking the ball loose from a Patriots’ running back. The Tiger defense was responsible for this score as Luke Olivares recovered the ball and then ran it back for a Tiger touchdown.

The Tiger offense was able to score after the Tiger defense led by Cole Faust recovered another fumble by the Patriots in the fourth quarter. Jaylyn Varna ran 15 yards into the end zone and scored the touchdown that sealed the Tiger victory. Congratulations Freshman Tigers on your first win of the season.

THIS WEEK— On Thursday the freshman squad plays Taylor in Tiger Stadium at 5 p.m.
