The sub-varsity Blue and Gold fell short by one point Thursday against the Lorena Leopards. The final score of the contest was Lorena Leopards 15, Rockdale Tigers 14.

The DNA of the varsity is obviously a part of this Tiger squad. The never give up, fight hard and leave it all on the field attitude must be tattooed on these junior varsity players and coaches.

Two-way starter and standout Greyson Williams stopped the Leopards on their opening drive by intercepting a pass. The Tigers then held onto the ball most of the first quarter. Penalties became the problem for the Tiger offense and the opportunity to produce any points on the drive failed. The score at the end of the first quarter was 0-0.

After the Tiger defense stopped the Leopards in the second quarter, the Rockdale offensive line punched the clock and went to work. Tiger’s Jeremiah Butler and Brody Willard also did their jobs with Willard taking the ball into the end zone just before halftime. Butler made the two-point conversion and the Tigers took the lead 8-0.

Before the half ended, the Leopards attempted to make a quick touchdown but Tiger Shawn Gerren would have none of that and he shut down the drive with an interception.

The score at halftime was Tigers 8, Leopards 0.

The Tigers started the second half with the ball.

It was a struggle for both teams to get any real momentum in the third quarter but the Tigers blocked a Lorena punt and this play put them in a position to have Tiger Jeremiah Butler run the ball into the end zone. This put the Tigers up 14-0.

It did not take Lorena long to come back with an answer to the Tigers being in the lead. The Leopards converted the two-point conversion and made the score 14-8 going into the fourth quarter.

Rockdale would continue to make some big plays on the defensive side of the ball including a sack by Tiger’s Cole Faust and Michael Carver.

Rockdale’s offense was unable to make their efforts generate points and the Leopards would eventually score, making the extra point kick to win this tight game. The final score was Lorena 15, Rockdale 14.
