If we could eliminate the second quarter from Thursday’s game the sub-varsity Tigers would have won against the rival Yoemen with a final of 33-25. But since we can’t do that the final was Cameron 45, Rockdale 33.
Cameron came out and scored first but missed the extra point. The scoreboard showed Cameron 6, Rockdale 0.
The Tigers answered with their own quick march down the field and took the lead with a Tiger quarterback Greyson Williams pass to James Bartsch. The score at the end of the first quarter was Rockdale 7, Cameron 6.
The second quarter was where as Rockdale coaches said, “The Yoemen would go on a run” against the Tigers. Two Tiger turnovers would be the catalyst for Cameron putting up 20 points on the scoreboard from three touchdowns. The score at the half was Cameron 26, Rockdale 7.
Rockdale pressed reset at halftime and Tiger Eduardo Rivera caught a pass for 35 yards from quarterback Williams.
The Yoemen were not satisfied and came right back at the Tigers in the third quarter. They scored on a quick passing play, their fifth touchdown of the night.
Tiger Jeremiah Butler then took the next kickoff and returned it for 55 yards, creating the opportunity for quarterback Williams to throw a touchdown strike to Ayden Pena. This was the Tiger signal caller’s third touchdown pass in the game. The score after a busy third quarter was Cameron 33, Rockdale 20.
Tiger special teams player Jameson Cox then recovered an onside kick from freshman kicker Joshue Rodriguez. This play while exciting would prove to be fruitless after the Tiger offense turned the ball over inside the one-yard line on downs. Because “Tiger fight never dies,” the Tiger defense made an interception in the fourth quarter. Tiger Jeremiah Butler ran the ball in for a touchdown with less than seven minutes left in the game. The score was now Cameron 33, Rockdale 26. The Tigers were still in this high-flying game but Cameron scored again making it a 39-26 ballgame.
The Tigers did have one more touchdown in the gas tank with quarterback Williams running the ball into the end zone. The Tigers were now only down by six points but the Yoemen would score again with two minutes left in the contest. The Tigers left defeated, 45-33.
THIS WEEK— The JV team is now 1-6 and will play at home this week against Academy.
