The Tiger junior varsity football team fell to 0-2 for the year this past week. They lost to the Taylor Ducks here at home. The final score was Taylor 14, Rockdale 6.
Tiger James Bartsch made an interception on the Duck’s opening possession. The Tiger offense went to work with quarterback Greyson Williams connecting with receiver Reaghan Jackson for a big completion. This set up Tiger running back Jeremiah Butler to score the Tigers only touchdown, making the score, Rockdale 6, Taylor 0.
The second half of this game was a defensive battle with both Rockdale and Taylor unable to find the end zone.
In the fourth quarter the Ducks converted a fourth down inside the red zone and then scored their first touchdown of the game. They made the two-point conversion and took an 8-6 lead over the Tigers.
It looked as if the Tigers would make a comeback and win this game, but turnovers by the Tigers proved costly including an interception by the Ducks that was returned for a touchdown. The final score was Taylor 14, Rockdale 6.
Junior varsity players that stood out on the offensive side of the ball were Rachaid Wilson, Ayedan Pena and the entire offensive line. Defensive standouts were Bartsch, Butler and Jackson.
This Tiger squad is 0-2 for the season with their next game at home in Tiger Stadium against the Lexington Eagles at 6 p.m.
Rockdale freshmen The Rockdale Tiger freshman team lost against the Taylor Ducks at home last week. The final score was Taylor 28, Rockdale 0.
Tiger fight never dies and Big Blue never quit, Rockdale stayed in the game all four quarters. The Tigers found their defensive rhythm in the second half of this game and held the Ducks to only one touchdown.
Defensive standouts for this game were Jameson Cox, Cole Faust. Offensive stand outs were Josiah Smith, Jalyn Vrana, Kendrick Henderson.
The freshman squad is now 1-1 for the season. They don’t have a game this week.
