Last week, Rockdale High School Class of 1999 graduate Donald Hatcher was named head football coach at Anderson High School in Austin.
“It’s exciting,” Hatcher told the Austin American-Statesman. “I’m able to get out there and really reach the kids more than I do now as a defensive coordinator where I can lead everybody all at once.”
“It’s a dream come true for me,” he added.
Hatcher returns close to home after working as the co-defensive coordinator at Class 6A Little Elm, a school in the Dallas area, since 2015. The former Tiger told the Statesman that he was interested in the Anderson job due to the school’s academics and sees a lot of untapped potential in the school’s athletic program.
After playing under former Tiger coach Casey Creghan at RHS, Hatcher earned his undergraduate degree from Stephen F. Austin in 2004 and started his career at Somerville before making stops at Austin LBJ and Desoto High School.
He inherits a Trojan team that finished 3-7 in 2021.
