BLEEDING BLUE AND GOLD

Tiger baseball is here!

The Blue & Gold went all the way to the regional semi-final last year. Their record was 25-10-1 and no doubt after going four deep in the playoffs and having a staff of coaches that all played for Big Blue, like Ethan Brinkley, Pearce Loth and skipper Austin Caffey, a culture and identity has been established in the dugout of what it means to play for Rockdale.

This team is confident and ready to pick up where they left off last year. Head baseball coach Austin Caffey who is in his third year of running this program acknowledges there are some holes to fill after losing some key players to graduation.

'We are losing seven starters but our philosophy is not to rebuild but to reload,' said Caffey.

He went on to say, 'The intangibles like leadership those guys provided really helped our club.'

Rockdale is fortunate to have veterans Brody Willard, Stephen Goodrich, Mason Lillard and Austin Caldwell returning, along with some young guys like Cole Faust and Cade Lillard.

'We can't replace players like Mason Willard and Cruz San Migel but we can replace their production,' Caffey said.

The Tigers start the season at 7 p.m. Monday at home against St. Michael's of Austin. —ka— Former Lady Tiger and current head volleyball coach Morgan Laughlin is retiring from coaching. It's a sad day for Rockdale's volleyball program but a great day for Coach Laughlin and her baby girl Aubrey.

Laughlin loves coaching, especially coaching for her hometown, but for now she wants to spend any extra time she has as a working mom with Aubrey.

We will miss Coach Laughlin on the court but we will continue to see her making an impact and influencing students in the classroom.

Thank you Coach! —ka— Rockdale now has a Super Bowl champion. Former Tiger Le'Raven Clark, who graduated in 2011, is currently playing for the now world champion Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday 40-22 in New Orleans.

This is Clark's second time playing for the Eagles.

Clark was originally drafted out of Texas Tech in the third round of the 2016 NFL draft by the Indianapolis Colts. He spent four years with the Colts before being signed by the Eagles in 2021.

Following that first stint with Philadelphia, Clark spent the 2022 season with the Tennessee Titans and 2023 with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Congratulations to Clark who is the first Tiger to play on a Super Bowl winning team.
