A day before the Rockdale varsity football team made their way to Teague, the Blueand- Gold junior varsity began their season at Tiger Stadium, where they defeated the Lions, 24-6.

RHS played well in the opening quart er, with Wilmer Sorto recovering a fumble and Brody Willard finding Daniel Cast illo open for a 45-yard pass. Howe ver, both teams ended the first scoreless.

That all changed in the second quarter, when Rockdale scored 16 unanswered points thanks to long touchdowns passes from Brody Willard to Bryson Weaver (52 yards) and Alex Cooper (41 yards) during the quarter. With both two-point conversions successful, RHS went into halftime up, 16-0.

Teague scored in the third quarter but RHS increased their lead to 18 in the final quarter when Radyn Hamilton crossed the goal line for the team’s third touchdown of the day. Willard’s two-point conversion pass to Mason Lillard was successful. The Tigers held on to the lead to win, 24-6. According to coach Ethan Brinkley, Dav id Penny, Ayedan Pena and Reaghan Jackson we r e t he of f ens ive standouts.

Top per formers on defense were Landon Deason, Klay Eschberger, Luis Lepe and Sorto.

THIS WEEK— Rockdale junior varsity goes on the road this Thursday, heading to Taylor to face the Ducks.

Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
