Rockdale’s junior varsity football squad got their first win this past Thursday with a 38-6 win over Lexington.
The Eagles took an early 6-0 lead toward the end of the first with a three-yard touchdown run and a failed conversion.
Before the first ended, Rockdale took an 8-6 lead with a seven-yard touchdown pass from Creek Windham to Amarion Butler. The two-point conversion following Butler’s touchdown was successful.
After the opening quarter, the Tigers never looked back with two Robert Owens touchdowns in the second. The first, a 65-yard punt return and the other 25-yard reception from Windham. RHS led 22-6 at halftime.
Rockdale improved their lead to the eventual final score of 38-6 with two more Owens touchdowns. One was a 40-yard run and the latter was an interception return for 43-yards. Both conversions after were successful.
According to coach Bart Gibbs, offensive standouts were Owens, Angel Lopez, Cade Pantaleon, Windham, Gavin Aguilar and Lane Rickman.
Standouts on defense were Edward Powell, Nathan Thomas, Jose Aboytes, Butler and Pantaleon.
THIS WEEK–The Tiger junior varsity is back on the road this Thursday at 6 p.m. with a game against Hyde Park Baptist in Austin on Thursday.
JV2–Rockdale’s second junior varsity lost 36-0 early Thursday evening in College Station against A&M Consolidated’s JV White.
Both teams play again in Rockdale this Thursday at 5 p.m.
