The Rockdale boy’s powerlifting team placed fourth out of 13 teams at the Lampasas Badger Powerlifting Invitational on Thursday.
“This is the most impressive boy’s team finish I’ve had in my time at Rockdale,” said Jacob Campsey, RHS head powerlifting coach. “The majority of the schools at this meet were class 4A.”
The Tigers finished in front of Brownwood, Marble Falls, Fredericksburg and Llano and were led by Nathan Jeter, who placed first in the 114-pound weight class with a total of 655 on the bench press, dead lift and squat. Jeter improved his total, adding five pounds to his squat and 15 to his dead lift.
Jeovanny Navarro finished second in the 132-pound class after winning the Giddings meet last week, but improved his total weight from 745 to 795 this week.
Avery Boundy also added points to Rock-dale’s total score with a third place finish in the 123-pound weight class. Boundy scratched during the bench press last week, and didn’t place.
The Tigers had four lifters in 181-pound weight class. Bruce Mayfield placed eighth, Chris Remaplaced eighth, Chris Remaley 10th, Bryce Govan-Miller 16th and Hayden Aguilar 18th.
Alex Ellison and Colby Monroe placed eighth and ninth in the 220-pound class and Gavin Aguilar placed seventh in the 242-pound weight class.
“Every aspect improved this week for us,” Campsey said. “We got stronger and our technique improved. We competed harder and we lifted smarter.”
The RHS teams lift at the Elgin Wildcat Invitational on Saturday.
Lady Tigers – The Rockdale girl’s powerlifting team placed seventh out of thirteen teams at the Lampasas meet on Thursday.
“We had multiple girls out for a state cheerleading competition,” Campsey said. “But a lot of girls had personal records that day, so I saw a lot of improvements.”
The Lady Tigers were without Mackenzie Musto and Macy Knesek, who both won their respective weight classes at the Giddings Invitational last week.
Jesenia Navarro led Rock-dale with a second place finish in the 114-pound weight class. Navarro improved her squat from 190 to 210 and increased her bench press from 85 to 90 between the Giddings and Lampasas meets. Autumn Montelongo placed second in the 148-pound weight class with a total of 685. Montelongo improved her personal best from 670 to 685. Whitley Boyd finished in fourth place in the 165-pound class.
Other lifters for RHS were Haven Jimenez and Lisbett Bousart, who placed ninth and 14th in the 181-pound weight class.
Tasha San Migel also lifted, but scratched during the bench press.
