The Rockdale Tigers put the bat on the ball in a 12-4 win on Tuesday night at home against Lexington.
“We hit the baseball well tonight,” said John Hooser, RHS head baseball coach. “We didn’t make mistakes in the field either and that was the difference.
“We had some production from Drayton Castaneda, who was seeing the ball really well this game. But when you play defense and put the bat on the ball, good things are going to happen.”
The Eagles scored in the top of the first inning but RHS clapped back with three of their own in the bottom part of the inning, leading 3-1.
Lexington tied the game at three in the top of the third but the Tigers had a five-run rally led by Castaneda’s one run double, an error that scored two, a stolen base and on a single by Tyler Caldwell, leading 8-4 at the end of the third.
Rockdale scored another four in the bottom of the fifth and held on to win the game 12-4.
Ryker Zinn led RHS from the mound with seven strikeouts and six hits allowed in five innings. Jose Young also threw two innings to end the game.
At the plate, Zac Davis led the Rock with three hits and three runs batted in. Castaneda, Zinn and Jackson Perry all had two hits and Vincent Flores, Ryan Blair and Caldwell each had one.
“We needed this win really badly and I’m proud of our guys,” Hooser said. “I’m glad we were able to do that tonight and now we can get back on track.”
Rockdale is now 2-6 in District 19-3A play and face the Eagles again on Friday in Lexington.
“We’ll have to definitely play with some confidence and keep playing solid defense,” Hooser said.
“Zac Davis will be on the mound and he’ll throw some strikes so we just have to make sure we play good defense behind him and hit the ball.”
First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
CAMERON--Last Friday, the Tigers ended their series with the other team from Milam County losing 9-0 at home.
Davis led Rockdale at the mound with seven strikeouts and allowed five hits in four innings pitched. Young also struck out two in 2.1 innings pitched.
