Ont Saturday, 45 people came out to play in the 9th annual ‘Tigers and Friends’ alumni golf tournament at the Rockdale Country Club.
“It’s a really neat deal,” said Jeff Miller, RHS athletic director. “It started off as an alumni golf tournament for past players to get together and play with each other.
“But it’s basically progressed into a tournament where players, coaches and fans of Rockdale golf come out and have a great time. Kaybee Nelson from the Class of 2016 runs it and she does a great job.”
The first 18 holes of the tournament ended with a four-way tie with the four teams’ scorecards all at 59.
Five and a half holes later, a first, second and third place were decided.
The first place team consisted of Wade Smith, Nelson, Allan Jones, Billy Galbreath, Ronnie Leggett and Ethan Brinkley.
Second place was Tanner Banks, Jeff King, Russell Caffey, Joe Cleveland and Randy Schaefer.
Third place was Brady Wright, Kenny Gerren, Dave Sears, Gunner Miller and Ricky Gaines.
Sponsors of the tourney were Shawnee’s, CC’s Boutique, Gatti’s Pizza, Jeff and Angel Miller, Brady’s Pest Control, Nelson Stoney Hill, R&B Car Wash, Bland Construction, Judith Matula, Bake My Day, Charming Blossoms, Janak Farms, Carroll and Sandy Glaser, Rockdale Signs, Tanner Banks of Milam County Farm Bureau and Bud’s Electric.
The tourney also received a donation from Rockdale Country Ford and Brett’s Bar-B-Que, who donated sausages for the event.
