The Rockdale Tiger boys soccer team ended pre-season play with a 3-1 loss in Lampasas on Friday.
“It was pretty heated and things got intense,” said Gilberto Rodriguez, Rockdale High School soccer coach. “But I thought we played all sixty minutes of that match.”
The Tigers trailed 2-1 at the end of the half. The Badgers got a couple breaks in the second that led to RHS losing 3-1.
“I also think the officials made a couple of questionable calls that hurt us,” Rodriguez said. “But it happens. It doesn’t take away from how well our guys played.”
Chris Olvera scored in the first half for Rockdale, marking his twelfth goal in eight games. Ryan Nguyen had two shot attempts and Luis Iruegas, Joan Pacheco and Olvera each had one. Ty Mayberry had 11 saves and allowed three goals.
“Ty did a great job back there,” Rodriguez said. “(Lampasas) spent a lot of time at the goal and he made a lot of stops.”
Rockdale is off until Wednesday, Feb. 13, when the play their first District 26-4A game on the road against Hearne at 6 p.m.
“We’re definitely going to do some conditioning drills this week,” Rodriguez said. “I also feel like we don’t talk enough on the field.
“Sometimes we have trouble with completing passes and a lot of that could be avoided if we just talked more while trying to get the ball down the field.”
Lady Tigers — The Rockdale girl’s squad lost 6-0 to Lampasas in their final contest before District 26-4A play,
The Lady Badgers, who were coming off an 8-0 win over Florence three days earlier, built a 2-0 lead at the intermission. LHS took complete control of the game in the second half, scoring four more goals to win the 6-0.

Vanessa Gonzales had one shot attempt and Elysia Ruelas had 14 saves and allowed six goals.Ruelas filled in for goalie in place of starter Kaylee Criswell, who was out of state, according to Rodriguez.
“We’ll do a lot of the same things the boys will do this week,” Rodriguez said about the week off. “A lot of conditioning, and brushing up on basics just to get them ready for the upcoming weeks.”
