Rockdale’s boys soccer team kicked off district play with a 3-1 win over Hearne last Tuesday at Tiger Stadium.
Despite missing a penalty kick early in the game and missing a couple opportunities to score, the Blue-and-Gold dominated possession for most of the game with goals from Hagen Land, Jorge Salazar and Fernando Gonzales.
Rodriguez also said the Eagles came into the evening with just one game under their belt, but hardly looked inexperienced on the pitch.
“Their coach said they only played one game,” Rodriguez said. “It’s pretty crazy, the guy knows what he’s doing.”
The fourth-year coach also said that he expected Hearne to be good and that he’s already thinking about their matchup in Robertson County on Feb. 19.
“The game at their house is going to be miserable,” he said. “Smaller field, much more crowded. I’ll have to get a gameplan for that one soon.”
THIS WEEK—With no game this past Friday, the Tigers return to action against La Grange on Tuesday after press time.
They travel across the river on Friday to face rival Cameron.
In their four-year history, the boys have never lost to Cameron.
Game time at Yoe Field is scheduled for 6 p.m.
LADY TIGERS—Like the boys, the girls also had Friday off and last played on Tuesday evening when they fell 8-0 to Needville, a Houston area school with more than double the enrollment of RHS.
Lady Tiger head coach Shirley Lozano said Ana Pacheco was the standout player of the game.
Rockdale faced China Spring on Tuesday and have no scheduled contest for the second Friday in a row.
They start district play this Tuesday when they travel to Giddings.
First kick is slated to be at 5:15 p.m. at Buffalo Stadium.
