CAMERON—Despite double-digit hits and another early lead, the Rockdale Tigers still were not able to secure that first district victory.

A five-run sixth inning from Cameron kept the Tigers from posting their first District 20-3A victory on the year in a 12-9 loss to the Yoemen Tuesday night.

Rockdale slips to 4-13 overall and 0-10 in league play with two games remaining in the regular season.

The Tigers wasted 11 hits and six walks, including a three-hit effort from Tyler Caldwell and a home run from Josh Springer.

The two teams combined for 22 hits in the cavernous Ballpark in Cameron, where singles turn into triples and the centerfield fence is a major league-worthy 370 feet away.

Rockdale hopped on Cameron pitcher Jason Llanas right off the bat, crossing the plate three times in the top of the first.

Caldwell scorched a triple to right field, followed by a single to left by Devon Whitsel. Jackson Perry brought them home with a triple in the leftfield gap to make it 2-0. Perry scored on an error to make it 3-0 early. It was Perry’s team-leading 18th run batted in on the season.

After the Yoemen surged ahead 4-3 with a three-run second, using three walks, an error and a triple, Springer lofted a fly ball into left field which skipped over the 320-foot fence for a home run to tie the game at 4-all. It was the senior’s first long ball of the season and just the third for the team.

Rockdale grabbed the lead again in the fourth with a three-run frame on a wild pitch to score Caldwell who had singled, followed by and RBI single from Whitsel and a bases-loaded walk by Zac Davis to make it 7-6.

The Tigers took a 9-7 lead into the sixth, before the Yoemen erupted for five runs in the bottom of the inning with five singles and a costly Rockdale error with two outs.

Springer (1-5) took the loss in relief of starter Ryker Zinn, allowing four runs and three singles in 2 1/3 innings of work. Springer was lifted in the fourth with the game tied 7-all.

Bryce Brashear was the winner in 2 2/3 innings of relief.

Lexington

The Tigers jumped out to another early lead but could not hold on in a 10-4 loss to Lexington Friday at Tiger Field.

The Eagles led 7-2 after three innings of play and tacked on three more runs in the final two innings.

Perry—a .383 hitter on the year--went 2-for-3 at the plate with another triple and two runs batted in.

Davis and Springer also contributed RBIs.

Caldwell (2-3) took the loss in two innings of work and the Tigers committed six errors on the evening and Tiger pitchers allowed eight walks.

Rockdale hosts Rogers Friday and then Jarrell on Tuesday.
