A confident Rockdale Tiger team showed up Friday night on the road against what is historically a good Lexington Eagle football team and came away with their first win of the season. The final score was Rockdale 27, Lexington 13.

Lexington scored the first blow with a six-yard passing touchdown but then failed to make the extra point making the score Eagles 6, Tigers 0.

Almost immediately the Tigers came roaring back with senior veteran quarterback Blaydn Barcak turning on the jets and running the ball 45 yards for the first Tiger touchdown of the night. Senior kicker Daniel Rodriguez who is typically solid missed the extra point making it a tie ballgame, Rockdale 6, Lexington 6.

Solid play by the Tiger defense kept the Eagles from scoring in both the third and fourth quarters. In the second qua r ter Tiger quarterbac k Barcak ran 11 yards and found the end zone for a second time. Kicker Rodriquez was then good on the extra point and the score was, Rockdale 13, Lexington 6.

In the third quarter, Tiger quarterback Barcak scored once again with a one-yard rushing touchdown. Kicker Rodriguez was excellent on the extra point, making the score, Tigers 20, Eagles 6.

The Eagles found some life in the fourth quarter and scored on a 49-yard pass reception. They made the extra point, making the score Tigers 20, Eagles 13.

This was clearly the Tigers game and senior star special teams player Gerren Marrero-Carter returned the kick 73 yards for the last touchdown of the night. The final score was Rockdale 27, Lexington 13.

STANDOUTS— Players of the game were Barcak who finished with three touchdowns, 104 yards of rushing and 72 yards of passing. Junior linebacker Sawyer Chalk had five tackles, a sack, an interception and a fumble recovery. Senior linebacker Isaiah Sauls had five tackles, a fumble recovery and he and Chalk shared the co-defensive MVPs of this game.

Senior defensive lineman Chad David had four tackles and blocked an extra point.

Finally, senior Gerren Marrero-Carter, who plays wide receiver, defensive back and excels on special teams, had a 73-yard touchdown return.

The T ige r s c a l led up junior varsity player Reaghan Jackson, who gave some much needed support on the defensive side of the ball. They were able to rest some two-way starters because of the superior play of Jackson.

The Tigers had a great week of practice last week with very few distractions. They were focused and that clearly showed up on the field. This game was full of big plays and big hits.

COMING UP— This week the Tigers travel to Llano for a game against a 3-0 Jim Ned High School out of Tuscola. The Indians have already beat the defending state champions Hawley and beat former state champions Wall. They are currently ranked No. 8 in Class 3A-1 by Texas Football magazine. The Tigers are listed as the home team for this neutral site game. The kick off is at 7:30 p.m.
