“Oh, what a night” is what they sang back in the day and it’s what Tiger Nation was singing as Rockdale swept Malakoff in two games Friday night.
The Tigers traveled back to Madisonville to play on the artificial turf against Malakoff and everyone thought this team might be a challenge. But former Tiger and Head Baseball Coach Austin Caffey had his guys more than ready and they made it look easy beating Malakoff in both games.
The first game had a weather delay in the bottom of the sixth inning and the Blue & Gold was up 7-0 before the game was called.
Game one was finished the next day and the Tigers won 8-2.
Game two was played after game one wrapped up and the Tigers won 9-6.
The dynamic duo of Mason Willard and Mason Lillard provided the pitching we needed. Willard earned the win, while Lillard got the save.
Willard led the offense as well, driving in four runs off of two hits—he doubled in the fourth scoring three runs and singled in the first inning for an RBI.
Others providing support in the win were fearless Brody Willard, Blaydn Barcak, Daniel Castillo, Layton Mogford and Mario Casarez.
REGIONAL QUARTERFINALS— The Tigers will now play in the regional quarterfinal round of the playoffs. They will face off against the West Trojans, who were district champions with a 9-1 record and a 23-9 overall record.
This will be another bestof- three series that will be played at the Georgetown Eastview High School.
Game one is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, game two will be at 5 p.m. Friday, and game three, if needed, will be on Friday following game two.
