The RHS baseball team fell to 1-5 in District 19-3A play on Tuesday night with a hard fought 3-1 loss to rival Cameron.

“J.J. Moreno pitched outstanding tonight,” said John Hooser, Rockdale High School head baseball coach. “We bobbled the ball a couple of times and he pitched us out of trouble.

“We just didn’t get the timely hits we needed to get and (Cameron) did. We also missed a couple of bunt opportunities to help move runners that would’ve been in scoring position when the middle of the lineup was up. But we’re pretty young at the plate and we’ll get better at locating pitches.”

The game was tied at zero in the fourth when Luke Greene hit a two-run single to put the other team from Milam County ahead 2-0.

The Tigers fought back with one run in the top of the fifth, but the Yoemen answered with another run to make the score 3-1, which was the final score.

Devon Whitsel, Jackson Perry, Ryker Zinn and Dray-ton Castaneda each had one hit against Cameron’s Jason Llanas, who struck out five, walked three and allowed four hits.

Moreno struck out seven and allowed seven hits.

I’m really proud of the way our guys played,” Hooser said. “It was a really good baseball game.”

The blue-and-gold faces the Yoemen again on Friday at Tiger field. This game will close the first half of district play for Rockdale who has series with Lexington, Troy, Franklin before closing the season against McGregor, who they beat 11-3 on Tuesday, March 12. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
