The Rockdale Tigers lost in front of the home crowd against Cameron last Friday by a final score of 35-10. It always hurts to lose but to lose to Cameron and to lose the bell seems to hurt just a little bit more.

There is no doubt the Blue & Gold was up for this game, it just did not go their way.

Athletic director and head football coach Hunter Hamrick shared, “I was pleased with our team’s response to the adversity we faced.”

In fac t, bot h tea ms experienced a lot of adversity— Cameron’s starting quarterback went out early due to an injury and they would be forced to use two back ups to win the game. Both teams were scoreless in t he f irst quarter. Cameron, however, came out of their offensive slump in the second quarter putting up 21 points on the scoreboard compared to Rockdale’s three points made off kicker Feranando Pacheco’s field goal from 25 yards out. At halftime the score was 21-3.

Big Blue would score once in the second half on an eight-yard touchdown strike from quarterback Greyson Williams to tight end Reaghan Jackson. Kicker Pacheco hit the extra point.

The Yoemen scored two more touchdowns— one in the third quarter and another in the fourth quarter.

In a game where the Tigers never really caught any momentum on either side of the ball and despite their serious effort, their rivals from across the river came out on top winning 35-10.

This loss puts the Tigers (3-5, 0-3) in a challenging position. Rockdale is sitting in last place in District 11-3A DI and has its two final games against t he d ist r ic t ’s top t wo teams. Franklin is 3-0 and Troy is 2-1, the only thing that makes this harder is Cameron is now tied for second place with Troy (Cameron lost to Troy two weeks ago).

Coach Hunter Hamrick is looking forward to the Tigers competing this Friday night, he is encouraging seniors to enjoy the rest of the season and telling every player to keep working hard and keep getting better.
