Blue-and-Gold baseball lost to Caldwell for the second time in district play, but didn’t go down with out a fight as they put up five runs in the final inning before ultimately losing on the road, 8-5 to their Brazos Valley neighbors.
CHS was able to get on the board early with a tworun bomb by Lucas Peel in the top of the second and go another run on an error in the third to lead, 3-0.
The Hornets scored more in the fifth with five runs to make the score, 8-0.
Despite Caldwell’s comfortable lead, the Blue-and-Gold staged a comeback in their last at-bat. The Tigers were able to capitalize on five walks and a hit batter to score five straight and even made it through the entire order, but it wasn’t enough to make up for Caldwell’s early scoring and fifth inning rampage.
Mario Casarez led Rockdale at the plate with two hits while Zakori Yanez and Cruz San Migel each had one. Mason Willard took the loss for the Tigers, allowing eight hits in five innings but striking out seven.
LAST WEEK—T h e Tigers also faced Rogers three days before for their outing in Caldwell, falling to the visiting Eagles, 7-6 in extra innings.
Casarez struck out seven in six innings and allowed five hits. Tra’on Crawford also threw for three innings, striking out two and allowing one hit. Crawford, Casarez, Yanez, Jesus Bocanegra and Tyler Stewart each had one hit that evening.
THIS WEEK—Rockdale was host to rival Cameron on Tuesday after press time and face Lexington in their season finale at Tiger Field on Friday. This will be the final high school baseball game for seniors Crawford, Yanez, Devin Muston, Kobe Mitchell and Davioun Scott.
LADY TIGERS—I n their season finale, RHS softball lost to Caldwell, 9-5.
Freshman Olivia Rubio struck out two and Salome Cardona led the team at the plate going tw0-for-three with two runs batted in.
Makaila Jackson and Izabella Delgadillo each had a hit.
This was the final game for Cardona and fellow senior Jessica Flores.
Although they finished 0-12 in district play, RHS head coach Meghann Infantino had a young team with six freshman, two sophomores, two juniors and two seniors on the roster.
The team was also led by assistant coach Jade Laake and head volleyball coach Kelsey Hudson during the last week of the season since Infantino was expected to give birth to her first
