Rockdale High School boys’ soccer came within one goal of beating La Grange on Monday, a team that has finished first or second in district the past three seasons, 5-4.
Each team scored a goal in the first half, with Daniel Castillo getting the goal for the Tigers. However, the match was decided by a series of penalty kicks at the end of regulation. The Leopards made four goals and the Tigers fell short, with three goals from Marvin Mata, Daniel Romero and Jesus Bocanegra.
Despite the loss, the Tigers still earned a point, which could potentially help the Blue-and-Gold if they end district play tied for a particular spot.
LAST WEEK—RHS was off on Friday but opened district play with Hearne last Tuesday at Tiger Stadium where the visiting Eagles won 3-0. RHS coach Gilberto Rodriguez said last year that Hearne’s soccer program has improved very quickly.
THIS WEEK—The Tigers head northeast on Friday to take on rival Cameron. The Yoemen are 0-2 with losses to La Grange (3-0) and Smithville (5-1). Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.

RHS also hosted Lago Vista Friday evening in a match that was scheduled earlier in the week. The Lady Vikings won 5-0.
