BREMOND—Rockdale baseball went undefeated at their second to last tournament of the season over this past weekend, beating Iola, Normangee and Franklin’s junior varsity.
Against Iola, the Tigers built an early lead in the third with three runs and added five more in the fifth with hits from Mason Willard, Mario Casarez, Stephen Goodrich and Jesus Bocanegra.
The Blue-and-Gold went on to get a 10-1 victory over the Bulldogs. RHS sophomore Austin Caldwell led from the mound, throwing six innings and striking out four. Junior Jesus Bocanegra came in for the final inning to earn the save. Leading the team at the plate was Tiger freshman Stephen Goodrich, who went three-for-four.
Against Normangee, the Tigers started off on fire with 12 runs in the first inning thanks to hits from Willard, Casarez, Bocanegra, Cruz San Migel, Tyler Stewart and Mason Lillard. Rockdale went on to run-rule the Panthers 14-0 with Bocanegra getting the win. He struck out one and allowed one hit in two innings. Brody Willard also pitched two innings, giving up two hits but striking out three.
In their game with Franklin’s junior varsity, Rockdale was led by four runs batted in by San Migel. During the first inning, the Rockdale junior brought two runners home with a triple and got one runner home in both the second and third innings. In addition to San Migel’s RBI-single, both Willard brothers, Casarez and Blaydn Barcak also contributed to a five-run rampage in the inning. The Tigers went on to run-rule the Lions after four innings played, 11-1.
Lillard led the Big Blue from the mound with five strikeouts.
MOODY— The Tigers also took on Moody at home on Monday night, falling to the Bearcats, 12-2. RHS struggled against the MHS offense, which put up six runs in the top of the seventh inning. Six Rockdale players, including Casarez, Goodrich, Stewart, Bocanegra and both Willard brothers, pitched that evening.
THIS WEEK— The Blueand- Gold travels up to West this weekend to play in their final tournament of the season. On Thursday, they take on Corsicana (2:30 p.m.) and Mineral Wells (4:30 p.m.) with one game on Friday against the tourney host, West (7:30 p.m.). They also have only one game on Saturday with Riesel (12:30 p.m.).
They open up district play at home on Tuesday, when they face Lexington. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
