Although the Tigers made a comeback against Elgin toward the end of their 66-63 loss at the RHS Gymnasium Friday, coach Marcus McNeil saw it differently.
“I think we still have more in us,” he said. “I don’t think we played as hard as we could have the entire game.
“To the fans, it looked like a comeback, but to me, I feel like we have way more potential than we displayed.”
The game started out with Rockdale taking the lead in the first but Elgin, a Class 5A school with an enrollment of 1,335 students, went on a 21-6 run in the second to lead 36-25 at halftime.
Elgin extended their lead to 13 at the close of third before Rockdale made their final bid at the end.
Anthony Dansby was the evening’s scoring leader with 13 and Jace Robinson had 13.
The Tigers are the off for the week, but resume play on Monday, Dec. 30, and Tuesday, Dec. 31, at the Schulenburg Tournament.
“I think our arch nemesis has been some guys playing as individuals and not as a team,” McNeil said. “I think if we can unite and work hard, we’ll be all right.”
RHS gametimes will be made available on the Reporter Facebook page later in the week.
