The Rockdale Tigers had a much needed week off last week and will begin district play this week after a 3-2 start.
The Tigers are hosting Little River-Academy at Tiger Stadium. Kick off is at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The Bumblebees—who were supposed to be red hot this year—are suffering through a drought at 0-5.
Someone will leave the field undefeated in District 11-3A DI and everyone that bleeds Blue & Gold is hoping it’s the Tigers.
Athletic director and head football coach Hunter Hamrick says his team is ready and, for the most part, healthy.
Some key players that have been out with injuries should be suited up for the Friday night lights, except for starting lineman Za-Kobe Anderson, who could be potentially out for the season— this is not good news for Rockdale.
“We are evenly matched against Academy,” Coach Hamrick said “Our offense against their defense should do well. They have a physical offensive line and a physical running back but our defense should hold up.”
He added, “If we can neutralize the run game, our defense can do some good. We have to be able to stop the run.”
After five games team leaders for the Tigers are:
• Sophomore quarterback Greyson Williams, 1,163 yards in passing, 69-128. He is averaging 232 yards per game, has eight touchdowns, 10 interceptions.
• Sophomore running back Jeramiah Butler has 319 yards on 74 carries. He is averaging 4.31 yards per carry and has five touchdowns.
• Sophomore wide receiver De’Andre Stephens has 662 yards on 32 receptions, averaging 20.69 yards per catch and 132.40 yards per game. He has six touchdowns.
• Senior defensive back Erik Sheppard leads the defense with 54 tackles, three sacks and one interception.
