The Rockdale Tigers may have dropped a couple of district games, but did not go down without a fight.
The Tigers lost to Lexington 10-7 Tuesday night on top of an 8-6 loss to Franklin Friday at Tiger Field.
Rockdale drops to 4-6 overall and 0-3 in District 20-3A.
Tuesday night against Lexington, the Tigers fought back after falling behind 6-0 after two innings.
The Tigers sliced the lead to 8-5 after positing three runs in the third and another in the fourth and fifth.
Crossing the plate two more times in the sixth to make it 9-7, the Tigers could get no closer.
Jackson Perry stood out for the Tigers, going 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two runs batted in.
Devon Whitsel added another double and an RBI.
Josh Springer took the loss in six innings of work, while the Tigers committed six errors behind him.
Against Franklin, Rock-dale got off to a horrendous start, with two throwing errors on top of two singles providing Franklin with an early 3-0 lead.
The Lions added four more runs in their next at-bat, sending nine batters to the plate and banging out five singles.
Undaunted, Rockdale struck back in the bottom of the second with four runs of its own, the big blow coming on Caldwell’s double up the middle to score Hairston and Ryker Zinn to slice the lead to 7-4.
After the Tigers settled down, Franklin did not cross the plate after the third inning.
Rockdale chipped away with a run in the fourth on a Franklin throwing error to score Zinn and added another in the sixth on Springer’s RBI single to left to score Jackson Perry who had reached on a fielder’s choice to make it 8-6.
The Tigers were poised to fi nish the comeback, but after drawing a walk, Towns got caught in a run down trying to steal second after a strikeout to end the threat.
The lefty Caldwell absorbed the loss, allowing eight hits and two walks.
Springer shut down the Lions in 2 2/3 innings of relief, allowing just one hit.
Caldwell went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs batted in, while Springer delivered two singles with an RBI.
