In the 2019 edition of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine, the Tigers are ranked 18th in Class 3A Division I and are picked to finish third in District 10-3A.
Rival Cameron is picked to win the district and are ranked fourth behind state champion Grandview, state-runner up Malakoff and Atlanta.
Troy is picked second in district and is ranked 16th by TF.
Academy is predicted to take the fourth and final playoff spot and Lago Vista, Jarrell and Manor New Tech are picked to miss the playoffs.
The annual football “Bible” praised junior running back Cam’Ron Valdez who led the team in rushing with 1,166 yards last season.
It also highlighted and junior wide receiver Kesean Raven whom TF described as a “Swiss-army knife” for his combined 789 rushing and receiving yards and more than 400 return yards lat season.
Senior defensive back Levi Baggerly also received recognition from the publication for leading RHS with seven interceptions in 2018. Linemen Ty Mayberry, Ethan Taylor, Cole Rickman, Kaden Kruse, linebackers Chase Mayfield, Brandon Hernandez, Christian Briggs, defensive backs Qua’Shawn Crawford, Ethan Hughes, wide receivers Ross Loth and Landon Towns, tight end Keylan Hairston, utility player Kobe Mitchell and quarterback Jace Robinson were also named as “players to watch” for the Tigers this upcoming season.
The Tigers open their 2019 season on Friday, Aug. 30, at home against Giddings.
District play for 2019 begins on Friday, Oct. 4, in Manor against the New Tech Titans.
Games will start at 7:30 p.m.
