JARRELL—The Rockdale Tigers saw their first preseason action at Friday night’s scrimmage in Jarrell against a 4-A Division II Cougar team that ended with a 2-2 score.

Two-way starter De’Andre Stephens intercepted a pass and returned the pick for a touchdown but in a controlled scrimmage like Friday night’s event, this score was not included in the final.

The two touchdowns came from sophomores Stephens and Wilmer Sorto. Tiger veteran quarterback Bladyn Barcak connected with Stevens on what ended up being a 70-yard score and running back Sorto had a seven-yard run into the end zone.

Overall, head coach and athletic director Hunter Hamrick was pleased with his team.

“We did start out slow. Our running backs did great, our defense played well, it was a confidence building exercise, our skill players looked good,” he said.

“We have some areas we need to clean up, there was some confusion tonight, but overall our athleticism showed up,” the coach added.

The game included some super Tiger-type play from junior Sawyer Chalk, who carried the ball well after primarily playing only defense the last few years.

Ezekiel Castro was part of the running back squad that exploded on the first few plays of the scrimmage and junior offensive lineman Klay Eschberger played his typical fast and physical game.

Congrats to these Tigers and all of the Tiger players.

JV— The Tiger junior varsity put up three touchdowns against Jarrell’s two scores on Friday.

Former Tiger and Coach Pearce Loth shared with The Reporter that, “We saw improvement in our running game as the game progressed and much-needed improvement on ball security.”

Tiger quarterback Greyson Williams connected with receivers Ayden Pena twice and Reagan Jackson once for touchdowns.
