The Rockdale Tiger baseball team got the win on senior night Tuesday against the 9-3 Franklin Lions.
“I’m really proud of all these seniors. It was senior night and it’s the last time they’ll ever put on the spikes at this field,” said John Hooser, RHS baseball coach. “Zac Davis pitched his guts out tonight and Tyler Caldwell came in and did a great job. We played great defense to back those guys up and four was enough against a really good baseball team.”
The Lions got up early in the first with an RBI-single by Kohlten Parlari and scored another to have a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. RHS answered back with two in the bottom of the inning.
The Tigers took the lead with two runs in the third when Jackson Perry singled on a 2-1 count and scored once more to take a 4-2 lead.
Franklin cut Rockdale’s lead to one in the bottom of the sixth but the Tigers held on to win the game 4-3.
Davis earned the victory with five strikeouts and allowing two hits in five innings. Caldwell pitched in the final two innings of the game and had three strikeouts and allowed two hits. Ryker Zinn led RHS at the plate with two hits and Jackson Perry had one.
Of the five batters Rockdale got on base, four of them ended up scoring.
The Tigers face the Lions again on Thursday evening in Franklin. According to Hooser, Zinn will be the starter, since Caldwell’s pitch count was low on Monday, he will likely see the mound on Thursday.
