The Rockdale Tiger soccer team went into the second half of its soccer match against last year’s state semi-finalist Taylor tied 0-0 before falling 3-0 on Friday at home.
“Our guys did outstanding,” said Gilberto Rodriguez, Rockdale High School soccer coach. “Despite not coming out on top, we stuck with what was very good for the first half. I really felt like Taylor didn’t know what was coming.”
The undefeated Ducks controlled the ball for most of the game, put couldn’t get a goal past Rockdale’s back line in the first half.
Early in the second half, the Ducks scored and were able to get two more goals past Brandon Hernandez, who also had eight saves.
“That was a really good game for us,” Rodriguez said. “And I think we proved ourselves because their players were really upset that the game was tied going into the half.”
The Tigers faced Manor New Tech after press time on Tuesday and play Hearne on Saturday at noon. The Tigers defeated the Robertson County footballers 10-0 on Wednesday, Feb. 13.
LADY TIGERS—RHS lost 4-0 to Taylor. But like the boys, Rodriguez was positive about how the girls played.
“They did amazing honestly,” Rodriguez said. “We actually played a similar style to how the guys played but we only had 11 girls.
“We got tired, and I think that was the big factor. Because eventually, Whitley (Boyd) got hurt and was out for a few minutes and we had one less player than them on the field.”
The Lady Ducks scored early in the first half and RHS held them until the end of the half. Taylor took advantage of the Lady Tigers fatigue and scored three in the second half.
Kaylee Criswell had 13 saves and allowed four goals for Rockdale.
The Lady Tigers played Manor New Tech on Tuesday and face Georgetown Gateway 10 a.m. at home on Saturday.
The Lady Tigers lost their first district game to Gateway 1-0 on Feb. 11.
