Earlier this week, the Rockdale Tigers basketball team went 0-3 in a challenging Schulenburg Tournament.

In their opener on Monday, they fell behind early to Class 4A Bellville.

The Brahmas led 41-26 at halftime.

Rockdale stayed even with BHS for the remainder of the game but Bellville held on firmly to win 66-49.

On Tuesday, the Tigers played two games.

First, they faced a Columbus team just six games removed from the state football playoffs.

However, the Cardinals were anything but rusty, beating the Tigers 87-65.

In their final game, RHS had a rematch with Schulenburg.

Rockdale beat the Shorthorns on a newly resurfaced Tiger Gymnasium 68-61 on Tuesday, Dec. 3.

This time, it was SHS that was triumphant, winning 51-40 on their home court.

THIS WEEK–On Friday, the Tigers hit the road once again when they take on McGregor for their district opener.

The Bulldogs are 5-11 on the year but have won three of their last six games including a 56-30 win over Class 4A Gatesville.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

LADY TIGERS–Unlike the boys, the Lady Tigers had the entire holiday break off from live competition.

Their last game was against Lexington where the top-ranked Lady Eagles outdueled them in the second half 43-26.

With a 1-1 record in District 19-3A, the girls’ also head up to McGregor this Friday.

The Lady Bulldogs are 2-11 this season and are 0-2 in district play after a 40-34 loss to Academy and a 49-28 loss to Troy in their district opener.

Game time is scheduled for 6:15 p.m., following the junior varsity boys’ game.

EAGLES–Over the break, Milano played once in Flatonia where they lost 91-43 to the Bulldogs on Monday.

As of Monday, Dec. 30, FHS is ranked 24th in Class 2A in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ poll.

Milano plays next on Friday in Granger.

The Lions have yet to win a game this season with their most recent losses to Marlin 71-38 and a 40-35 loss to Rosebud-Lott over the holiday break.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

LADY EAGLES–The Lady Eagles also played only one game over the Christmas holidays.

On Monday, they lost 51-25 to Somerville.

Like the boys, they return to action on Friday in Granger.

MHS is 0-2 in district after losing to Thrall 40-26 in their opener on Dec. 17, and falling to Holland 35-31 on Friday, Dec. 20.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
