The Rockdale Tigers got their third District 19-3A win on Friday night with a 13-10 victory over Lexington, beating the Eagles for the second time in four days.

RHS got off to a fast start in the first inning when Drayton Castaneda singled on a 0-1 count to put the Tigers on the board leading to a five-run rally to put them up early.

The Eagles fought back in the bottom of the third inning with five runs of their own to tie the game at five. Rockdale answered back in the bottom of the inning with four runs led by an RBI-groundout by Ryker Zinn and a two-run single by Zac Davis, making the score 9-5.

Lexington answered scored once in the fourth and once in the fifth but Rockdale took a 13-7 lead with two in the sixth and another two in the seventh. Relief pitcher Jose Young held the Eagles to three in their final at-bat and winning the game for RHS 13-10.

The Tigers had six hits in total with two each from Zinn and Vincent Flores and one apiece by Davis and Castaneda but were walked a total of 10 times. Young was walked in all four of his at-bats and had two RBI’s off of walks. Jackson Perry and Bruce Mayfield both walked twice and Flores and Devon Whitsel were walked once.

Davis led the Tigers from the mound with six strikeouts and allowing four hits in four innings thrown. Young pitched three innings and struck out one and allowed five hits.

According to head coach John Hooser, this was a much needed win for the Tigers.

The Tigers fell to Troy 3-0 on Tuesday after press time and will face the Trojans again on Friday in Rock-dale. The Trojans are 8-1 in district play with their only loss at home against Cameron on Tuesday, March 12 beat the Yoemen in Milam County three days later.

The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. following the end of the junior varsity game at the Tiger Baseball Field.
