It wasn’t even a minute into Rockdale’s match with rival Cameron when RHS junior Fernando Gonzales gave his team a 1-0 lead on Friday evening at Tiger Stadium.

“That really got us fired up and set the tone early.” said head coach Gilberto Rodriguez.

Seven minutes later, the Blue-and-Gold made their lead 2-0 when German Mata made a penalty kick.

Rockdale held this lead until the final six minutes of the game when the Yoe scored to make it 2-1.

The Tigers held on to get their first district win and their third consecutive win over Cameron in school history.

SEASON–RHS has encountered a lot of bad luck with this season.

First, the University Interscholastic League(UIL) added two Austin area schools to District 26-4A.

Idea Montopolis is 3-1 with wins over 2019 playoff squads Taylor and Manor Tech.

The other team, Austin’s Achieve Academy, opened district play with a 10-1 victory over the Tigers and tied district champion Eastside Memorial and Manor New Tech following that.

Rockdale is also without leading scorer Chris Olvera, who is likely out for the rest of the season after injuring his collarbone on Tuesday, Jan. 7, against Giddings.

THIS WEEK–The Tigers faced Hearne on Tuesday after press time.

RHS travels to Manor to face New Tech on Friday evening.

The kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

LADY TIGERS– Before the boys, the Lady Tigers fell 4-0 to Cameron.

According to coach Kaitlin Brinkley, top defenders were Carla Ugalde and Ana Pacheco.

THIS WEEK–Rock-dale played Georgetown Gateway after press time and host Manor New Tech on Friday.

Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
