With two state championships and nine out of the last 10 seasons in the playoffs, Tiger football has been painted as a legacy. Compare that to their first district opponent Manor New Tech, who will be playing its first ever district game on Friday, Oct. 5.

After a bye week, the Rockdale Tigers open District 10-3A DI against a school with a clean slate.

The Manor New Tech High School Titans athletic program started this school year.

“A lot of guys on the team haven’t played football or really any sport in the last two or three years,” said Head Football Coach and Athletic Director Quincy Williams on the school website. “They have to get in a groove, but they can definitely help us.”

“I don’t know a whole lot about the situation,” Rock-dale Head Football Coach Jeff Miller said. “But I know he’s a really neat guy, and it’s helpful that he’s from the area.”

Williams graduated from Manor High School in 1988, and said he is excited to don the Titan royal blue and silver in place of the Mustang red and white.

“I am so excited to be a part of this fantastic opportunity to help create another school identity in the community in which I was raised,” Williams said on the school’s website.

Manor New Tech’s focus is in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The Manor New Tech athletic program was a part of Manor High School’s system until this year.

The Titans have two or three guys on their team who have played high school football before, according to the Austin American-Statesman.

The Tigers will play the Titans in the inaugural game of Tiger Stadium next Friday, Oct. 5.
