No. 1 Thorndale watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in an 11-2 loss to Rockdale on Friday.
The Tigers scored on a single by Zac Davis in the first inning, a single by Rtker Zinn in the second inning, a single by Tyler Caldwell in the second inning, and a passed ball during Jackson Perry’s at bat in the second inning.
The 9-1-1 Bulldogs—ranked No. 1 in Class 2A— struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Rockdale, giving up 11 runs.
Thorndale got things started in the first inning, posting one run when Corbin Pruesse doubled.
Rockdale scored four runs in the second inning. Rockdale batters contributing to the big inning included Zinn, Caldwell and Perry, all driving in runs in the inning.
Zinn got the win for Rockdale, going seven innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out 11.
Ty Kovar took the loss for Thorndale, surrendering eight runs on six hits over 3 1/3 innings, striking out two and walking one.
Pruesse, Tyler Shillings, and Trey Ortiz each collected one hit to lead Thorn-dale Bulldogs Varsity.
Caldwell led Rockdale with three hits in three at bats.
Thorndale
Thorndale sailed to an easy victory over Thrall 15-2 on Monday to open district play, getting a boost from players off the basketball team.
The Bulldogs opened up scoring in the fi rst inning, when Ashton Albert singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
Thorndale tallied four runs in the seventh inning.
The Bulldogs put the pressure on, lead by singles by Scott Guzman and Trey Ortiz, a walk by Logan Fisher, and a triple by Cole-by Driver.
Driver led the Thorndale to victory on the pitcher’s mound. He lasted six innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out eight. Ortiz threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Thorndale tallied 14 hits on the day. Mason Fisher, Ortiz, Guzman, and Albertall had multiple hits for Thorndale Bulldogs Varsity. Guzman, Ortiz, and Fisher each managed three hits.
Ther Bulldogs tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Albert led the way with two.
Logan Fisher threw a shutout to lead Thorndale past Thrall 1-0 on Tuesday.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Fisher struck out nine.
Fisher led the Bulldogs to victory on the pitcher’s mound. He went seven innings, allowing zero runs on six hits, striking out nine and walking zero.
Mason Fisher led Thorn-dale Bulldogs Varsity with one hit in two at bats.
“Tuesday was exactly what we preach to our kids on a daily basis,” said Thorndale Coach Kelly Kuhl. “Our motto is “If they don’t score they can’t win” and that held true on Tuesday. Every kid has “ITDSTCW” on their long sleeve shirt to remind them we are going to play defense and pitch first.
“Logan Fisher did a great job of pitching out of a couple of jams and we were able to scratch a run across in the seventh. We hit the ball hard tonight but right at people.”
The Bulldogs head to the Forsan Tournament this weekend.
