Not only did Thorndale High School hold their first meet on their re-surfaced track Thursday, but the site was also host to THS senior Michael Herzog leaping for what is now a national best after the Bulldog made 50’4” in the triple jump.

“Breaking the 50 for the first time on the home track was a pretty special feeling,” Herzog said. “It was the first time I’ve ever had the chance to jump at home and probably the last time I will ever compete in Thorndale in any sport.”

“Doing it in front of my friends and family just made it even better because they all know how much work I’ve done to finally hit this mark,” he stated.

Herzog also said it’s awesome to have the top jump for the outdoor season after having the same claim in January during the indoor season.

The THS senior, who verbally committed to Duke University earlier this school year, also won the 200-meter dash and was a part of a gold medal 4x200-meter relay team with Jace Robinson, Carson McCoy and Branson McCoy.

Other gold medalists for THS were Jason Penick in the 800-meter run, C. McCoy in the long jump, Stryker Leschber in the discus, Jake Ivy in the high jump and Emilee Baker in the 100-meter dash.

First place finishers for Milano were sophomore Gael Alcala in the 3200-meter run and freshman Kadance Koenig, who won the 3200 and the mile.

Both Milano and Thorndale track teams cross the Williamson County line today for the Thrall meet where junior varsity and varsity plan to compete.
