This lake got hit with a “triple whammy” this past week.
First, 5-10 inches of rain in the watershed north and west of the lake last Wednesday brought the up suddenly by 3.20 feet.
Next, we had a four-day spell of unseasonably cold weather to chill the water quickly.
Finally, post-f rontal clear, calm, cold, windless conditions struck Wednesday and Thursday.
A returning south wind forecasted for Friday will help bring about more favorable conditions.
All of this has led to the last of the thermocline falling apart, so a “new normal” will begin to develop, leading into late fall/early winter patterns with white bass holding tightly to the bottom in large congregations.
My go-to presentation will be slowly “smoking” or “easing” with the Bladed Hazy Eye Slab in white color, with size chosen to match whatever the fish are regurgitating when I catch them, after defaulting to the 5/8-ounce version to get started.
Water is off-colored in the upper third of the lake, from the river down to Dana Peak Point.
A few gulls have been sighted but are yet to be helpful in getting on fish.
