In the fourth quarter, the Lady Tigers cut what was once a 20-point lead down to as low as six points, before losing 59-48 in Troy Friday night.

“We played really well in the fourth,” RHS head coach Meredith Caffey said after the game. “We just couldn’t play like that in all of the quarters.”

Both teams started off even but that changed midway through the second, as the Trojanettes made life difficult for the Blue-and-Gold with a half-court trap.

As a result, Troy turned what was a one-possession game into a 33-13 lead over RHS at halftime.

The Trojanettes held their lead in the third but shots started to fall for the Lady Tigers in the fourth.

Thanks to Anna Harmon, who ended the night with 17 points, Andrea Salazar’s eight and Miah Beckwith’s seven points, the Lady Tigers got the game down to single-digits before falling 59-48.

Last season, when the two teams faced each other in Rockdale on Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, THS started off the game with a half-court trap and led 26-2 at the close of the first quarter.

The Lady Tigers were without leading scorer Anna Harmon in that game.

THIS WEEK–With a 2-3 record in District 19-3A, RHS is in the playoff hunt, but this week is a crucial one.

On Tuesday, they played Rogers after press time.

The Lady Eagles are a tough team that are 3-2 with one of their losses coming from top-ranked Franklin in a 49-46 district opener.

They also lost 49-39 to a Lexington team that was ranked earlier in the season and are coming off a 32-30 loss to Academy on Friday.

The Lady Tigers play next when they return home on Friday against Franklin.

Undefeated FHS had the close game with Rogers in their district opener, but has since demolished all of their competitors.

The Lady Lions defeated Troy 73-38, Cameron 63-13, McGregor 58-51 and Lexington 63-35.

RHS faces the Robertson County squad at 6:30 p.m.

JUNIOR VARSITY–

Like the varsity girls, the JV also got off to a slow start against Troy, but with tough defense, gained momentum and took a 12-6 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Rock-dale’s sustained their intensity on defense to defeat the Trojanettes on their home court 24-10.

Destiney Okara-Clarke led the squad in scoring with 12, and Mijah Crawford had five.

Coach Brian Thomas also said that McKena Lopez and Aaliyah McBrewer were key players with crucial steals and rebounds that catapulted RHS to victory.

The Lady Tiger junior varsity is 4-1 in district play as of press time.
