Rockdale ISD trustees will meet—sort of—at 5:30 p.m. Thursday to name a new head football coach/athletic director.
The “sort of” is because it’s a meeting by phone due to the COVID-19 situation.
Board members did gather “for real” Tuesday afternoon, in the final hours before County Judge’s Shelter-In-Place order went into effect at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday morning. (See page 1A.)
“There were less than 10 people in the room,” Supt. Dr. Denise Monzingo told The Reporter.
That meeting was to conduct interviews with the three finalist for job vacated by Jeff Miller, who left March 6 to accept a position in Cypress-Fairbanks, his high school alma mater.
Dr. Monzingo said 19 candidates applied to replace Miller, the winningest head coach in Rockdale High School football history.
Last week board members narrowed the 19 candidates to nine, then selected three finalists for interviews.
Only other item on Thursday’s agenda is to move the May 2 school board election to a later date, syncing its actions with the city.
