Two Rockdale teams finished in the top eight out of 16 teams in their respective age division at the Texas Teenage Softball state tournaments this past weekend.
The Rockdale Heart-breaker’s fifth place finish was earned after a 16-9 loss to the Riesel Lil’ Divas, they seemed destined for heartbreak but fought back on Tuesday with a 22-14 win over the Holland Hornets. The next day, they won two in a row beating the Rusk Sassy Sluggers 20-19 in a game that came down to the final inning when the Heartbreakers came back with three runs. On Thursday, their season ended in a 17-9 loss to eventual state runner-up China Spring Storm.
Also at home for state, the Milano’s Lil’ Eagles started off soaring with a 16-3 win over the Itasca Lady Cats. The girls ran into a rough patch losing 15-3 to the Normangee Panthers and being eliminated in a 21-10 loss to the Buffalo Lady Bison.
In Rusk, the Rockdale Hot Shot’s began the Texas Teenage Softball Eight-and-Under state tournament beating the Hubbard Extreme 17-14.
The next day, they found theirselves in the loser’s bracket 15-5 lost to Axtell Tindle. The girls bounced back Wednesday trampling tournament host Rusk Bear-cats 16-4.
The Hot Shots then faced the Bosqueville Crush. The game was tied 5-5 in the top of the fifth with two out while the Crush were up to bat when a storm came in that postpone the game for the day. The delay benefited the Bosqueville crew who outscored them 12-4 on Thursday for a 17-9 ending the Hot Shots season.
