The Lady Tiger power-lifting season came to an end at the Region 2 Division III Meet at Little River-Academy High School this past Saturday, with Mackenzie Musto placing fifth in the 132-pound weight class and Autumn Montelongo placing seventh in her final high school meet in the 148.
Musto squatted 260, bench pressed 175 and dead lifted 280 for a total of 710. Montelongo squatted 290, benched 145 and dead lifted 305 for a total of 740. Montelongo broke her own personal record in the dead lift. Tasha San Migel and Jesenia Navarro didn’t compete due to not meeting weight requirements for their respective classes.
Tiger power-lifters Robert Barerra, Nathan Jeter and Jeovanny Navarro will compete at the Region 2 Division III Meet this Saturday at West High School. Barrera will lift in the 275-pound weight class and Navarro and Jeter will lift in the 132 and the 114.
Navarro and Jeter are both 2018 regional qualifiers who qualfied in the 114-pound weight class. Navarro placed fifth with a squat of 265, bench press of 155 and a dead lift of 300 for a total of 720 pounds. Jeter finished eighth with a squat of 225, bench press of 135 and a dead lift of 280 for a total of 640 pounds.
THORNDALE—Lady Bulldog powerlifter Lauren Newton placed third in the 132-pound weight class on Saturday in Academy. Newton squatted and dead lifted new personal records of 315 and 280 for a personal all-time total of 740.
Since each region takes the top two lifters and an alternate in every weight class, Newton might compete if Morgan Kent of Dublin or Cierra Reyes of Brady are unable to at the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association Division III State Championship in Waco on Friday, March
15.
The Bulldogs have four lifters expected to compete in West this Saturday. Corbin Preusse will lift in the 198-pound weight class and Mason Liles in the 220. Jacob Pedroza will lift in the 242 and Corey Brooks will compete in the Super Heavyweight class.
