Former two-time state team champion Milano Eagle Devonte Jones competed in the SWAC Indoor Track and Field Championship at Birmingham Crossplex ranked No. 3 in the 60-meter dash for the Prairie View A&M men’s track and field team this past weekend.
He placed 6th in the 60-meter dash finals with a time of 6.87 seconds. He set his season best run of 6.84 seconds the 2020 Jayhawk Classic, according to Prairie View A&M athletics.
Jones finished the long jump with a leap of 21. 9 feet (6.71-meters) to finish fifth and placed 4th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.74 seconds.
Jones, who graduated from Milano in 2019 was named the 2019 VYPE Austin UIL Boys Track Athlete of the Year. He was part of the Eagle boys’ team that took two UIL Class 2A state championship titles in 2018 and ’19.
He took home five medals in the 2019 state championship, a silver in the long jump; a gold in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.73; a bronze in the 300-meter hurdles with 38.80; silver in the 4x200-meter relay 1:28.73 and the team gold medal.
In the 2018 state championship Jones won the silver in 300-meter hurdles, bronze in long jump and gold in 400-meter relay. In 2017 at state he won silver in 400-meter relay and silver in 300-meter hurdles.
He is the son of Joshua and Dameshia Davis of Gause.
