The wait for high school sports is almost over.
Starting on Monday, June 8, the UIL is allowing high schools to hold limited summer workouts. Sports have not been active since the UIL canceled all 2020 spring sports on April 17.
The UIL is allowing players, coaches and staff to return, but there will be some new rules in accordance with COVID-19 precautions.
The UIL has posted the following guidelines for both indoor and outdoor activities. Some of the major changes involve not being able to provide communal water and prohibiting the use of locker rooms and showers. Any indoor activities must be limited to 25 percent capacity.
“I’m thrilled they’re finally allowing us to do something,” RHS Athletic Director Jacob Campsey said. “It’s going to take a lot of planning and organizing but it’ll be great to see the kids.”
The full requirements for strength and conditioning session and instructions can be found on the UIL website.
At the moment, schools are still planning for the 2020 football season to begin during the final week of August.
