Rockdale Tigers star running back Cam’ron Valdez announced his verbal commitment to Texas Tech University on Thursday via Twitter.
“Texas Tech was the best place for me because I will thrive in their offense,” Valdez said. “It’s a new coachi n g s t a f f , they’re not just throwing the ball anymore. Coach Wells will give me the ball in open space.”
R a t -ed the No. 6 all-purpose running back in the country by rivals.com, a recruiting website, Valdez chose the Red Raiders over 25 other scholarship offers including Michigan, Arizona State and Oklahoma State.
The 5-foot 10-inch, 190-pound senior has rushed for 1,056 yards and 17 touchdowns this season. Valdez has cemented himself as one of the best players in RHS history by breaking the RHS all-time records for career touchdowns and career rushing yards.
Valdez says he plans to make an immediate impact for the Red Raiders.
“My expectations when I arrive on campus are to hit the weight room hard,” Valdez said. “I plan to receive a lot of playing time during my freshman year.”

“I am super excited for him” RHS Head Coach Jacob Campsey said. “I think Texas Tech is a good fit for him. It’s a place where he can go and have an immediate impact. He’s handled the recruiting process with class and I’m happy for him.”
Valdez is now the top recruit in the Red Raiders 2021 recruiting class. He will be eligible to sign his letter of intent during the early signing day period of Dec. 18-20.
