After a successful trip to the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation’s regional meet in Bryan, 43 members of Rockdale’s Wake Aquatics swimming club will represent the community at the 2022 Summer Games of Texas in Corpus Christi, from July 21-24.
The competition will take place inside of the Corpus Christi Independent School District Natatorium. Cost for attendees is either $7 per session or $35 for the entire weekend.
Wake also won the regional meet as a team with a combined score of 973 points overall. The Rockdale group beat out the College Station Tsunamis (922), City of Bryan Barracudas (901.5) and the Hamilton Bull Sharks (237.5) for the top spot. Last season, Wake Aquatics sent 19 swimmers to the same meet.
The club was started by Rockdale resident Leland Mankin, who grew up swimming competitively in his hometown of Tracy, California. He moved to Milam County and created the program so his sons, Harlo and Haden, could swim like he did as a kid and wouldn’t have to travel far to do so.
