Rockdale Girls Softball League play ended Wednesday with five Rockdale teams from three divisions advancing to district play.

The Scrappers won the 15 and under division with a 9-1 record and head to district in Troy on June

24. In coach pitch/8U, the Hot Shots and Dream Crushers came in first and second place respectively and will advance to district in Cameron on June 24. The Heart-breakers and Milano Lil Eagles (Thurman) get to bypass district in Belton and advance to the state tournament, because Rockdale will host the event in July.

Season play ended Wednesday at the Rockdale softball field. League president Pete Rubio hosted 200 plus players, where they participated in water activities, games and award ceremonies.

With the help of pitching ace Toni Meyer, the Scrapper team took the division title with a 9-1 record. The team racked up 89 runs and gave up 24 the entire season, according to Coach Scott Meyer. They head to district play in Troy as one of the top teams to beat.

The Hot Shots dominated the coach pitch division. They didn’t drop a single game the entire season.

“We got a really good core group of girls,” said Coach Justin Breithaupt of the Hot Shots. “The whole team shows up to practice and works hard. Rockdale is going to be our biggest competition in district.”

The two teams met four times during the season, which began in April. Each time they played Hot Shots bested the Dream Crushers.

“We got better every game,” said Andy Sandoval, coach of the Dream Crushers. “They beat us 10-2, 13-4, 7-2 and 12-11.”

STATE TOURNAMENT – There will be 400 plus extra people in Rock-dale July 8-12 for the Texas Teenage 6U Girls T-ball Tournament July 8-12.

“We applied to host the younger state tournament because they bring in more fans,” said Victoria Rubio, treasurer of the Rock-dale Girls Softball League, which is hosting the tournament. “There’s going to be little girls with bows in their hair all over Rock-dale. It’s going to be a hug boost for the eateries and hotels in town. The hotels will be packed.

“We could use volunteers to help rake the fields, work concession stands, take out trash, refill water coolers for teams players and any kind of monetary donation is always welcomed,” she said.

The host teams Rockdale Heartbreakers and Milano Lil Eagles head directly to state, since Rockdale is hosting the tournament, according to Rubio.
