In their first game since Dec. 22, the Lady Tigers were at a disadvantage this past Tuesday going up against a tall Rogers squad that beat them 51-26.

“Not having Julie (Bartsch) and Karlie (Marburger) out with her shoulder injury made us dependent on our guards to go up against their six-footers,” said Meredith Caffey, RHS third-year head coach. “And it just didn’t work.”

Sophomore Saige Robertson led with seven points while Miah Beckwith, D’Erika Hurd and Ciara Miles each had five.

Top scorers for Rogers were Jacelyn Chervenka with 13 and Liz McCormick with 10.

Although a double-digit loss wasn’t ideal to Caffey, she was quick to point out the upsides of the night’s action.

“The thing I enjoyed tonight is we needed to have a game where we showed that we were going to work hard,” Caffey said. “I know this game got a little lop-sided on us, but we fought and fought until the end.”

HOLIDAYS—Un like most area teams, the Lady Tigers didn’t play in a game in the days around the new year holiday.

Caffey says her team showed little signs of fatigue from not playing for two weeks and looks fresh.

One of the downsides of their return is that now they are four games into district.

With a 1-3 record, they opened their slate on Tuesday, Dec. 15 with a 54-22 road loss to Little River-Academy before bouncing back with a 38-18 blowout win at home over Florence on Friday, Dec. 18.

In their last contest before this week, they lost 42-29 across the river in Cameron.

Caffey says her team is coming back from the break with hardly any wiggle room.

“We’re already having to be in the right spot,” She said. “We’re in the mix of it and we’re clawing our way through.”

COMING UP—For game five of district, RHS will cross the Lee County line on Friday to face Lexington.

The Lady Eagles have made the post-season the past three years and are off to another promising start with a 3-1 record in district with wins over Caldwell, Florence, Cameron and a 44-43 loss to undefeated Academy.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:15.
