100 YEARS AGO... For once old man Jupe Pluve was kind to Rockdale and favored us with a bright clear day for the Aug. 8 second Monday Trades Day, the three previous events having been more or less drowned out by heavy downpours.

Mural town

On Aug. 28, nationally recognized mural artist, Sam Welty, will arrive in our fair city and begin two weeks of mural projects. The brainchild of this project is David Melton, chairman of Rockdale Earth Day, who wanted to create something that would beautify our town.

We are seeing an alarming rise in the number of active COVID-19 cases in Milam County. Since Sunday, we have had 43 confirmed new cases, bringing our total active case count in Milam Count to 103.

County passes historic small business grants

On Monday, July 26, the Milam County Commissioners Court voted unanimously to create a historic program to assist small businesses located in Milam County. The Milam County Small Business Grant program will be funded with up to $1 million from the American Rescue Plan Act.
