RCS food pantry

Rockdale Christian Services operates a food pantry at 224 West Cameron Avenue, open the second and fourth Thursday and Friday of the each month from 10 a.m. to noon.

Heavenly Treasures

Rockdale Christian Services “Heavenly Treasures” thrift store, 233 North Main, serves the needy with gently used clothing and household items at prices from 25 cents to $5. Hours are 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday through Friday.

In the summer of 1986, municipal workers of Philadelphia went on strike. During that hot summer, the trash got higher and higher. Orange rinds, drink bottles, old newspapers. Junk mail, aluminum foil, chicken bones. Old shoes, dead batteries. Coffee grinds, half-eaten hot dogs, tin cans.

Welcome Home

A common greeting among Vietnam War veterans is “welcome home.” Our use of this expression is rooted in the homecoming we never received upon returning from service during a war many Americans wanted to forget.
