Brett Boren celebrated the third anniversary of his Brett’s Backyard Bar-B-Que in grand style on Sunday with BrettFest, a gathering of over 40 barbecue joints from across our state as well as three others and one from Mexico. He also managed to sell out about half of the hotel rooms in Rockdale.

In another week daylight savings time will end and I’m not happy about it even though this is the one where we get an extra hour of sleep. I hate when it’s dark as soon as you get home from work. I can understand why we do it, mainly so kids won’t be waiting for the bus in the dark.

On Monday, October 25 the Milam County Commissioners Court took another historic step forward to land the American Statesman Glove Company in Milam County. By a unanimous vote the court approved a reasonable tax abatement for the company that will provide a 70% abatement over the next 10 years.

100 YEARS AGO The enrollment in Rockdale Public School was 448 against 410 the same date in 1920. Superintendent Marshall reports the attendance practically up to the enrollment figures.

ROCKDALE FAIR— Last weekend Rockdale held its 46th annual Fair. What a huge success! Thanks to all the youth of this county who worked so hard with an animal or a project. These are truly our leaders of tomorrow.

100 YEARS AGO… C.W. Maston of Dallas has bought the Dixie Theater from E.I. Wade. Mr. Matson is an old picture show man and promises to make the Dixie one of the best show houses in Central Texas. He announced that it will be operated every day from now on.
