100 YEARS AGO... The Rockdale Boys’ Band had been giving a series of weekly public concerts, the most recent of which was Monday night of this week. The temporary band stand was erected in the business district and a set program of music was prepared for each concert.

(This week we are rerunning former editor Mike Brown’s column about back to school from Aug. 20, 2020. It’s amazing to us how far we have NOT come. We are back to square one with the Delta variant, and school is starting again during a huge spike in cases just like in 2020.

Milam County Small Business Grants Three weeks ago, the Commissioners Court approved a grant for up to $10,000 for any Milam County business located in and doing business in Milam County that suffered a loss of revenue during the pandemic. We have received over 100 applications.

At our house we love grilled salmon. Our griller is Dad and he usually keeps it simple by just adding olive oil, salt and freshly-ground black pepper. He grills it low and slow with the grill top down. It’s so good that way.

As you are driving down Cameron Avenue and you see all the work going on, please be thankful that our water issues are, at long last, being addressed. Every city council for the past – what? – 75 years or more has kicked this can down the road and done nothing about it.
