The conclave begins May 7

Around the world, and especially within the shadowed corridors of the Vatican, human forces will try to shape the outcome of the papal election. That is to be expected. Conclaves, for all their ritual and spiritual mystique, are still human affairs. Cardinals read the mood of the church.

Thanks for all the help last week

Ask and ye shall receive. Boy did I get a lot of help when I asked for it last week. Both Lindsey Lillard and Tiffany Commerford Whitsel helped me and now I can share our RHS athletes’ successes on our social media with our readers and followers, and I’m very excited about that.

This is that dreaded time of the year when property appraisals come out from the appraisal district to your mailbox. This year is no exception and there is a mix of feelings and concerns about the appraised values of the properties throughout Milam County.

10-20-40-100 YEARS AGO 100 YEARS AGO Milam County was visited by rain shortly after midnight Sunday night, which, while not heavy, was sufficient to do some good all over the county, and in some spots a great deal of good. Here in Rockdale the fall measured a little more than half an inch.

Inconvenient church

I’ve got a friend that’s a famous celebrity type pastor. He’s on television and the radio every day and if I told you his name you would probably know who he is. My friend is thinking about writing a book entitled The Inconvenient Church. I get it.

Place of Hope needs our support

Afew weeks ago we spoke of resources available to Milam County folks when it comes to our children. April is Child Abuse Awareness month and as such it’s important to discuss the existing resources to stop child abuse and to aid children in the foster care system.
